Good News for People Who Love Champagne (Everyone)
Do you get a bit giddy over the idea of bubbly? Need another reason to love Champagne? Just like good news? Then you'll be thrilled by the findings of a study that found that drinking Champagne may provide protection against the onset of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
As we were hurtling toward another new year, the study conducted by scientists at The University of Reading resurfaced, just in time to save us from regret.
Sounding far less exciting than the results imply, the study titled Phenolic Acid Intake Delivered via Moderate Champagne Wine Consumption, Improves Spatial Working Memory via the Modulation of Hippocampal and Cortical Protein Expression/Activation details results of a six-week experiment in which lab rats were repeatedly fed small amounts of Champagne and then tested on their ability to complete a maze. The control (unlucky) group that received no Champagne fared poorly compared to their tipsy counterparts, leading scientists to conclude that up to three glasses of Champagne a week actually improves cognitive function. So, here's to science!
And as long as we're on the subject of Champagne, you may enjoy this article from The New York Times spotlighting lesser known, but highly noteworthy, smaller Champagne producers.
Cheers!
